Troubleshooting for Printed Image Distortion

Image distorts on finished print (often it looks as though the image has been stretched.

Why does printed image distortion occur?

Tension of fabric and transfer paper is not set correctly on heat press/calender.

Quick Fixes

Ensure tension is not too tight on stretch fabrics.

Note: This issue can be common with stretch fabrics.

Run a tension test:

Print a circle and transfer to fabric through heat press/calender. If the circle is oblong or egg-shaped, the tension is too high and needs adjustment.

Ensure that transfer paper is not slipping on the fabric while run through the heat press/ calender.

Consider utilizing “tack” paper.

If fabric does not stretch, add tension to fabric and transfer paper on the heat press/calender.

WHEN IN DOUBT, RUN A TENSION TEST BY PRINTING A CIRCLE AND RUNNING IT THROUGH THE HEAT PRESS/CALENDER.
